Its name is iCub and it's a humanoid robot, the result of five years' work by a pool of researchers now ready to be used in a wide range of sectors, from medical-surgical to domestic.

At the Angeloni stand during Compotec (CarraraFiere 21 to 23 October) it will be possible to see one of the most interesting parts, a hand in composite and alluminum, belonging to the humanoid robot made by the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), a Foundation set up by the Ministry of Education, University and Research and the Ministry of Economy and Finance with the aim of promoting excellence in basic and applied research and helping the development of the National economic system.

The heart of the IIT project is the Humanoid Robotic programme that develops the theme of artificial life to see the possible applications of machines resembling humans in everyday life to help people at work and at home too. The iCub, developed over five years by an international group of Universities coordinated by IIT, is a research platform that brings together border scientific knowledge and extremely advanced technological solutions in industries such as mechanics, electronics and motion control. In these areas, research and the use of robots in new materials that can ensure innovative mechanical, thermal and optical performance are particularly important since carbon fibres, composite materials and related technologies can provide an important solution for avant-garde mechanics in the
evolution of robots. To date 16 iCubs have been produced and are used in the same number of European Universities.

Doctor De Michele who is in charge of IIT's Technology Transfer, will be at Compotec on Thursday 22 in the afternoon and Friday 23 for the entire day to show the public and press the project and the functions of the iCubs.
