A positive outcome for the tenth year of Seatec held at CarraraFiere from 8 to 10 February together with the fourth year of Compotec. Seatec showcased 632 brand exhibiting, including 407 Italian and 228 foreign (mostly from the UK, Germany, France, the Netherlands, the US, Sweden, Croatia, Denmark and Finland) while Compotec showcased 125 different brands including 85 Italian and 40 foreign (mostly from the UK, Germany and France). A total of 7,086 trade visitors attended, including 6% from abroad (mostly from the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Croatia). "A positive outcome in terms of numbers which shows the importance of the event for the industry and considering the difficult situation facing the economy in Italy in general - commented the General Manager of CarraraFiere Paris Mazzanti - while the favourable opinions of visitors show the industry's strong desire to deal with the international crisis by emphasising companies' strong points which include innovation in technology and design with high quality products which is the winning card with customers". The event was for the trade with keen attention to environmental sustainability. Exhibitors very much appreciated the creation of Greentec, a green leaf to identify companies showing products, services and technology promoting environmental sustainability, recovery of materials and their recycling by means of a process which is likely to become a rule in the marine and composite industries. The attendance of many trade visitors to Seatec-Compotec, held together because of their many points in common, is one of the characteristics of an event which promotes business relations and innovation in one of the most important strongholds of Italian brands. One of the focal points of the event is the programme of side events, a rich programme looking at issues ranging from design to highly technical aspects with conferences on the different product areas at the event: from composites to sailing, from ergonomics to safety, to exhibitions on the numerous competitions which the event is now known for: Targa Rodolfo Bonetto for maritime and port design and MYDA, Millennium Yacht Design Award which, with the conference "Project in the Project" on marine design and engineering, enjoyed the presence of a leading figure in Italian design, Filippo Perini, Head of Design at Lamborghini. Success for the 6th "live" Abitare la Barca competition too, which involved 10 students, Italian and foreign, from various universities, who actually made their projects in a special area in front of passing visitors, and Qualitec, in its two sections "Technology" and "Design", for the exhibitors' most innovative products. Seatec-Compotec's full programme of meetings, conferences and technical workshops are organised both by the companies themselves and the institutions, training centres and trade associations that deal with topical issues of great technical value: refitting, issues concerning environmental sustainability, training, safety, analysis of economic trends, demonstrations of production processes with the use of composites, innovative propulsion technology, welding techniques, OCSE guidelines, navigation and maritime weather monitoring.Following its consolidated tradition, Seatec-Compotec hosted conferences and events with a high scientific and cultural profile this year too. CarraraFiere directly organised technical conferences such as "Refitting, restoring, restyling in the marine world" whose chairman was Massimo Musio-Sale, professor, researcher and expert in marine design, with the participation, among others, of Sergio Abrami, architect and yacht designer specializing in safety, as well as the conference "Green like composites" which was held during Compotec focusing on eco-sustainable materials, polymers and composites. Another conference organised by CarraraFiere was "Design: project in the project" which looked at design with a low environmental impact. Together with Filippo Perini, other speakers taking part in this conference were Andrea Frabetti, product development manager for the Ferretti Group, Roberto Piatti, CEO of Torino Design, and other leading figures from the academic world including Vittorio Garroni, Marco Maiocchi and Ivan Zignego. The conference Design and Environment dealt with issues regarding ergonomics, safety and living on board, with the important contribution of product designers of the calibre of Marco Bonetto and Valerio Cometti, as well as Massimo Paperini and Tommaso Spadolini, two of the most authoritative architects in the maritime sector. Among the most important conferences at Compotec, which proved once again to be an important occasion to discuss topical scientific issues, worthy of note is The state of the Art: evolution and promotion of composite materials, held before a large audience of leading figures from the world of design in various areas of production such as Tito Franzini and Luca Zavaglia, aerospace engineers, Gaspare Russo from Azimut-Benetti and Laura Lazzerini, Eliana Lorena, design historian and materials designer, Ludovica Serafini (Palomba Serafini architecture & design office). The conference also featured a very "special" guest", Giorgetto Giugiaro, who brought his car designing experience together with his curiosity for new shapes and ideas to this event which continues to be a success thanks to its ability to promote products, materials, research and innovation in important sectors such as technology, subcontracting and design for boats and composites with related technology. As in previous years, CarraraFiere invited numerous foreign delegates, this year from Turkey, Malta, Croatia, Germany and the UK, who were able to meet with the exhibitors thanks the organisation of a good 240 B2B meetings. Significant results were recorded for all those taking part. A further 17 foreign delegates attended thanks to their invitation by Lucca Promos as part of Lucca's Chamber of Commerce promotions strategies for the maritime sector.
